Cheeza

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

I’m excited to finally present you guys with a recipe of my moms! This recipe is super quick, easy, and only needs 9 ingredients!

My mom created this recipe back in the late 80’s and calls it “Cheeza.” As a kid, I did not care for all those veggies so my mom would just make me a plain cheese toast with some seasonings and no veggies! It was when I became a teen and found my love for mushrooms, when I finally decided to try the real way Cheeza was meant to be eaten. As you all know, moms are always right and I should’ve eaten this way all along! I’d request for my mom to make it all the time and she wouldn’t mind since it was so quick and easy. Although not the healthiest!

The original way my mom makes Cheeza is by throwing shredded cheese into the mushroom mixture and let’s it all melt into a cheesy spread. We would then spread that cheesy-mushroom mix on a slice of bread and toast it. I figured I would modify it slightly to make it a teeny bit healthier.

This recipe is more of an appetizer, but can be eaten as a meal also. I hope you guys love it! Thanks again for stopping by!

CheeZa

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp oil1 yellow onion, diced

  • 2 Roma tomatoes, diced

  • 1 pack 8 oz. button mushrooms, diced

  • 1 tsp garlic paste

  • 1/2 tsp green chili paste

  • 1/4 tsp saltCheddar cheese, shredded

  • Sliced bread, of your choice

Directions:

1. In a medium sauté pan, heat oil over medium heat. When oil is shimmering, add onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until translucent. Then add garlic and sauté until onions are golden brown.

2. Next, add tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes and add green chili paste. Now, add mushrooms and salt. Mix everything well and turn stovetop heat to high to let all the water burn out. Once all the water has evaporated, it’s done.

3. Spread mushroom mixture onto a slice of bread and top with shredded cheese. Pop into toaster oven until cheese is melted and bubbly, that’s it!

I like to top it with hot sauce for an extra kick! Hope you guys love this recipe! Don’t forget to tag me @thecurriedcook. Enjoy!
